Mission:
To present, promote, support, and inspire artists and creative endeavors. Vision: The Council advocates a better understanding of and appreciation for the arts and their role in our diverse community.
The Columbus Arts Council was organized in 1965 and incorporated in 1971. Our primary service is in Columbus and Lowndes County but our programs draw people from all over Northeast Mississippi and Northwest Alabama.
Since 1997, our home has been the Rosenzweig Arts Center (RAC) in the heart of downtown Columbus. The RAC features a sales and exhibit gallery, classroom space, theater space and meeting rooms. Services include re-granting to local art organizations as well as promotion and ticketing services for other local art groups. Our programs include the Young People's Artist Series, Concert and Artist Series, free monthly gallery shows, performances in the Omnova Theater, Art Underground classes and our Summer Art Camp.
As a nonprofit organization our major sources of funding are grants from the Mississippi Arts Commission, The Mississippi Humanities Council, Weyerhaeuser, City of Columbus, Lowndes County and the Columbus Convention & Visitors Bureau. However, we would not be able to exist without local corporate sponsorships and private individuals through the purchase of memberships, event tickets, class tuition, building rentals and gallery sales. Any time you pay for a ticket, give a donation, or become a member that money goes towards more programming and support of arts and arts education.
