Community Action Agency of Northwest Alabama, Inc. is a private non-profit corporation.  Incorporated under the law of the State of Alabama March 19, 1965 and organized for the purpose of planning, developing and administering programs and services designed to help eliminate poverty and encourage self-sufficiency.

We are conveniently located in Franklin, Colbert and Lauderdale Counties to serve the residents of each county.  (Please view 'Our Service Areas' for locations/addresses)

In April 2008 Community Action Agency of Northwest Alabama was designated by the Governor of Alabama as a Family Resource Center.  Community services, referrals and case management provided by the agency since 1965 have enabled the agency to grow, serving more than 5,000 families for 2008. 

Community Action Agencies (CAA) are non-profit orgainzations fighting poverty at the local level.  Established by the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, CAA's operate in 96 percent of all cities and counties in the country. The nation's Community Action Agencies were the centerpiece of President Lyndon B. Johnson's "War on Poverty".
