About The Damon Runyon Theater:

Born in Manhattan, Kansas in 1884, Alfred Damon Runyon moved to Pueblo when he was about seven. He began his writing career with the newspaper which later became the Pueblo Chieftain and went on to become one of the most famous Broadway writers of all times. Named after Runyon, Damon Runyon Repertory is a 501(C)(3) tax exempt organization incorporated in 1998 with the mission to encourage, promote and provide education in the performing arts in Southeastern Colorado.

At the Rep we like to steep ourselves in the writing of Runyon. For his Broadway stories Runyon created a diner called 'Mindy's' where you could buy world famous cheesecake and strudel. As homage to Runyon we call our quarterly publication Mindy's Bill. And we do have excellent snacks, sandwiches and libations in our PropShop and Java Coffee Shop.

In July 2003 The Rep leased the former Chief Theatre in downtown Pueblo. The old Chief has a long history, having started in the 1918 as the Rialto theater, then becoming the Chief in the 1930s. When suburban movies put the down-town theaters out of business, the Chief became the venue for a variety of things, including rock concerts.According to local legends, ghosts appear from time to time in the loges, and occasionally show up as wispy unwanted guests in photographs.

The Rep offers quality entertainment including live theatre, children's theatre, adult and children's workshops, dinner theatre, murder mysteries and an art gallery. Many of The Rep's performances are low to no cost.
