Your Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary organization of citizens who are investing their time and money in a community development program, working together to improve the economic, civic, and cultural well-being of the area. The Chamber is comprised of members, directors, officers and the Chamber staff.
Your Chamber is a service institution and an action organization. It provides a medium through which people can take effective action for the progress of our community. It works to create job opportunities, expand our tax base, attract tourists and visitors and to improve community facilities such as streets, highways, parks, schools, and human resources.
The Chamber of Commerce is led by its members. They elect a Board of Directors that determines policies and sets goals. The Board consists of 15 members, with an Executive Board of four. The Executive Committee is elected within the Board of Directors. A president presides over all Board meetings. The management and day-to-day operations of the Chamber are handled by a hired professional, the Executive Director and staff.
Any citizen who is interested in helping to develop the area is eligible to be a member of the Chamber of Commerce. A membership investment in your Chamber will vary depending on the size and type of your firm. Investments are paid in advance on an annual basis and may be tax deductible as a business expense.
The mission of the Decatur Chamber of Commerce is to achieve maximum prosperity of businesses and citizens of Decatur, by promoting economic development and a higher quality of life in the area.
