Deerfield Township is a rural community of 18 square miles located in northern Cumberland County, New Jersey. It is home to over 3,000 people, many businesses, productive farms, county government facilities, schools, places of worship, recreation areas and natural open spaces. It shares a border with the Cumberland County communities of Vineland, Millville, Fairfield and Upper Deerfield and the Salem County community of Pittsgrove. Four of the region's busiest roadways are in or just outside of the Township -- NJ Rt. 55, NJ Rt. 56, County Rt. 552 and NJ Route 49. At the Township's southern boundary is the village of Carmel. In the central portion of the Township is the village of Rosenhayn.

Deerfield Township is the location of the Cumberland County Technical Education Center, Cumberland County 4-H Extension Center, Cumberland County 911 Communications Center, Cumberland County Fire Training Center and Cumberland County Solid Waste Complex. Deerfield Township has experienced slow but steady growth over the past several years, allowing the Township to maintain its rural, farm-centered character and abundant open spaces. The Township Committee and Land Use Board, as well as many residents and business leaders believe that the Township is on the brink of significant growth. They are working hard to see to it that the future development of the Township is well-planned in order to protect the quality of life enjoyed by its residents and businesses today.

Two important factors support the prediction of future growth. First, the local, family-owned and operated farms that were the foundation of the economy of the Township throughout the years and contributed to its open space and rural life style declined in number, acreage and productivity over the past decade. The second factor that supports growth is the township's central location between Cumberland County's three largest cities and available developable, open land with easy access to the Sherman Avenue and the Landis Avenue exits of Route 55.
