Dexter Elementary, the BEST school in Shelby County, TN! Our motto, “Success for Every Student” promotes and builds social, emotional, and physical programs/activities, which enhance students’ academic abilities. Our focus is to provide our students with the building blocks they will need to become confident, creative and self-motivated life-long learners.
Our facility is composed of 19000 sq. feet of school space and sits on 32.08 acres. Our opening date was in August 2003. We are unique in that as a feeder school to Dexter Middle we share the same access road. Other feeder schools are Cordova Middle, Bolton High School and Germantown High School. Dexter prides itself in offering a variety of exceptional children services (CLUE, SPED Pre-K, Functional Skills, Adaptive Functional Skills, General Education Resource, Autism SPED, Behavior Intervention Class). Our community adopters are also an integral part of the Dexter family. Community partnerships with Hope Church, Team Read, Kroger and Unified Memphis support our students’ instructional needs through enrichment and engagement. We communicate through newsletters, social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter), school website, school announcements, ClassDojo, and School Messenger system to keep our school community informed.
Dexter’s doors are always open wide because we are a global learning community. One of our greatest strengths is our multiculturalism, which is celebrated through displays, feasts, and parades. Our English as a Second Language (ESL) Program at Dexter Elementary serves over 15 different cultures and languages. Our students speak Amharic, Arabic, Cantonese, Chinese, French, Hindi, Khmer, Punjabi, Spanish, Swahili, and Vietnamese. Our school supports all students’ language development through coursework, a focus on reading, listening, speaking, and writing collaboration with the classroom teacher.
