Founded in 1978, the Downingtown Area Historical Society is dedicated to recording, preserving and making known material related to the history of Downingtown. One of its important functions is to create public awareness and appreciation of our rich historic legacy which, hopefully, will lead to the preservation of existing historic structures as an active community commitment.
There are four stated meetings of the members and their guests a year, one a dinner meeting in the spring. At these meetings, subjects of historical interests are presented by qualified and interesting speakers. A time for refreshments and fellowship precedes each of these meetings which provides occasion for informal discussion and the making of new friends and aquaintances.
