The Basics school is based on the belief that learning takes place best in a well-planned educational environment. The basic skills of mathematics, reading, writing and self-discipline are emphasized, as well as the establishment of good study habits. Parents encourage their children to succeed in school, and they check that assignments are carried out.
Our program has evolved from the mandate to desegregate our elementary schools and, at the same time, from the desire to offer an alternative to existing educational opportunities in the William Penn School District.
The building might look like many others, but you can feel the difference as soon as you walk through the front doors. The air is electric with a quiet pride that even reflects from the shiny clean floors. We wanted a place, a school, where all the teachers would care and teach, the children would listen and learn, and parents would support and care. A place where laughter as well as learning could exist.
