Mission Statement

The Church Moving from the World to Christ while Raising the Standards

Doctrinal Statement

We believe in the one only true and living God, the Creator and Sustainer of all things, who is infinite, eternal, unchanging, and is revealed to us as the Father, the Head of the Trinity. We believe in God, the Son, the promised Messiah of the Old Testament, born of a virgin, conceived by the Holy Spirit, given to reveal God the Father, died to redeem man, rose from the dead, now seated at the right hand of God interceding for all believers, to return one day in visible, personal and bodily form, receiving His church unto Himself, at a time that the Father has reserved to Himself alone, as the glorified Lord of Lords and Judge of all mankind.

Our beginnings in the spring of 1951 came about because of much need on the west side of the railroad track. As we begin to move to the west side, it was a struggle to continue to try to attend the churches located on the east side of the city, thus a church was begun in the home of Deacon Mullins until a building was located, the first black Baptist church in this area. The initial meeting included the following members: Rev. James Thomas, Rev. Green (a Methodist minister), Deacon & Sister Mullins, Deacon & Sister Williams and Bro. & Sister Charlotte Ross (the parents of Rev. Isom Ross of Springfield Baptist Church). The church received its name in appreciation to Rev. Green for his help in the organization of this great ministry. Three ministers served as the pastors of Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church until 1958 when Rev. Ernest Cross became our pastor for the next 23 years. Under the leadership of Rev. Cross, we were able to purchase the property where the fellowship center now stands.

In March of 1982, the Lord gave us a Joshua who has led us until this present time. We have been able to continue our growth in the construction of a new edifice on the sight of the fellowship center and later to our present location. Dr. Ramsey, along with God's leadership, has seen fit to add to the ministry with new ministries within the church as the need dictated during his tenure at Evergreen. Our membership has grown to over 4,000 in the last 49 years with emphasis on the education of the whole man (body, mind and soul).
