History :
Faith Presbyterian Church is a church with a rich history. We were organized as First Presbyterian Church by the Reverend A. M. McCallum and seven charter members on August 29, 1857. The church’s original location was on the corner of Monticello and Second Streets in downtown Brookhaven. This was the first church building erected in Brookhaven. In 1879, the building was moved to the corner of South Jackson and Chickasaw Streets. On June 10, 1973, due to entrenched denial of fundamental biblical doctrines by the Presbyterian Church in the United States (now PCUSA), the denomination to which we belonged, the vast majority of the membership of First Presbyterian Church voted to leave that denomination and unite with the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). The PCA is currently the largest conservative Presbyterian denomination in existence. Faith Presbyterian Church was then formed and met at Whitworth College until the present building was completed. On November 28, 1976, the cornerstone of the present building was laid with the first worship service being held September 7, 1977. Although major changes have occurred in our world and culture since First Presbyterian was formed in 1857, Faith Presbyterian Church still holds fast "the confession of our hope without wavering"
