On the 7th day of April, 1905, a council made up of J. W. McAtee, Rev. Dodson of Guthrie, and H. G. Phillips of Yukon met in the Union Church House in Crescent, Oklahoma, to organize a Baptist Church in the community. Bro. Dodson was elected chairman and Bro. Phillips, clerk of the council. The following names were presented to the council, desiring to be included in the organization: Mr. and Mrs. Sam Kendrick, Mrs. E. T. Moore, Stella Moore, Mr. Ed Maise, Mrs. Ed Maise, Mrs. Martin, Mrs. May Smith, Mrs. Minervie Smith, Mrs. Mattie Ryland, Mrs. Josie Armstrong, and Etta Armstrong.
After the first articles of faith were read and adopted; the Church Covenant read and adopted; and the hand of fellowship was extended, the church was "thrown open" for the reception of members. Four were received as candidates for Baptism: Lillie Martin, Mrs. Nancy Powell, Mrs. B. F. Ryland and Mrs. Ora Lane.
Rev. H. G. Phillips was called as the first pastor. Thus was the beginning of the First Baptist Church of Crescent.
