First Baptist Church Of Liberty

602 Main Street
936-336-6881

A very brief history of us:

We were born on February 20, 1898 in the Liberty County Courthouse. We’ve come a long way.

We met in the courthouse for several months, led by circuit riding preachers. The Methodists allowed us to meet in their facilities for a while. Our first “church house,” a small frame structure, was built on Cos Ave a little east of Main St in 1900. Church membership in 1900 was 23.

From that time until today, FBC has seen its facilities grow, has heard great preaching from its pulpits, and seen thousands of lives change and hundreds of thousands of dollars spent to make the Kingdom of God bigger.

We belong to:

  • the Southern Baptist Convention

  • the Baptist General Convention of Texas

  • the Trinity River Baptist Association

Baptists refer to ourselves as “non-credal” which means we are not governed by religious creeds. We value the part they have played in the life of the Church throughout the centuries. We are not bound to them. As members of the Southern Baptist Convention we refer to The 1963 Baptist Faith and Message as a document that explains who we are and what we believe.
