Mission:
It is the mission of this congregation,as a part of the body of Christ: To proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ;To provide an environment where people can gather together in Christian unity, worshipping, loving, studying, and promoting spiritual growth; and To reach out in service to our community and beyond.
Our Beliefs:
The Christian Church believes in God as revealed in the Bible and through the life, death and resurrection of his son, Jesus Christ. We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, both fully human and divine. We believe the Bible reveals God's purpose for our lives and God's action in the world.When Barton W. Stone and Thomas Campbell founded the movement we now call The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the early 1800's, they saw this church as bringing all Christians together on the basis of the beliefs of the New Testament Church.
They based the beliefs and practice of the Christian Church on the scriptures and made such statements as, "Where the scriptures speak, we speak, where the scriptures are silent, we are silent."For this reason, we celebrate Holy Communion whenever we gather together for worship. Communion is a central part of our Sunday morning service as it was in the early church. In the book of Acts, it is written that, "they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers."
The Christian Church practices immersion baptism by believers, as Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. However, we know we are baptized not into an individual church but into the body of Christ and recognize infant baptism and baptism by other churches and denominations. New members do not have to be rebaptized unless they wish to do so but all who come to be part of the church are asked to renew their baptismal vows.
We believe in the priesthood of all believers. Our elders and deacons dedicate and serve communion. Jesus invites all believers to join around this table.
