LOVE is the spirit of this church, and service is its law. This is our great
FOUNDED in 1846 in a small, rural community in East Central Alabama, the First Universalist Church of Camp Hill grew to be the largest Universalist church in the South during the first half of the twentieth century.
In 1898 the church was instrumental in the establishment of Lyman Ward Academy bringing quality education to the area. However, growth did not last. The migration of families from rural areas to urban centers over several decades brought a decline to Unitarian Universalist churches in the South.
Many disappeared. Yet, due to the sacrificial dedication of its members, the church at Camp Hill, though small, has persisted and anticipates a healthy growth in ministry and membership as experienced in recent years by other Unitarian Universalist churches in this part of the country.
