About Us:
A 151-bed community hospital, FirstHealth Richmond Memorial serves the emergency, inpatient, outpatient and acute-care needs of the people of Richmond County and the surrounding area.
The hospital first opened in 1952 and was originally certified for 50 beds. There were expansions in 1962, 1975, 1980, 1997 and 2003.The most recent expansion was a new state-of -the art Emergency Department completed in summer 2003. Other additions include a new wing that houses labor and delivery suites, a surgery center and outpatient services.
The Women's Imaging Center opened in early 2005. The center consolidated all of the hospital's imaging services that are used exclusively for women - mammography, ultrasound, and bone density testing for osteoporosis - in newly renovated space. Before opening the Women's Imaging Center, Richmond Memorial upgraded its mammography equipment, including CAD (Computer Aided Detection) software, and installed a new generation of ultrasound equipment. The center not only offers improved technology, but also streamlines the diagnosis process and next steps if needed.
Richmond Memorial Hospital also offers a Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center specializing in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers, thermal burns, crush injuries, pressure ulcers and other non-healing wounds.
Richmond Memorial Hospital joined the FirstHealth of the Carolinas family on March 1, 2001.
