Our building incorporates a team teaching educational approach, which addresses the academic, emotional, and social needs of our students. We serve over 1000 students in grades 4 through 6. We house computers in every classroom and we have two computer labs within our building, which are used by all the students and teachers, as well as our technology teacher. In addition, we conduct a "Career Pathways Program " for our sixth grade students to introduce them to the world of work and help guide them in course selection.
The district aquatics program is centered here in our building. We offer many programs that students can participate in such as band, orchestra, choral groups, academic enrichment, student council, and mustang tutors. We have a bullying prevention program in effect which helps in the prevention of bullying within our school. We also have other features such as instructional support, student assistance program, developmental guidance, STARS, academic enrichment, and an automated library with over 30,000 volumes.
Our students attend physical education/swimming four times a week, as well as music, art, and library classes weekly. Our staff is dedicated to the academic success of our students at GMIS. The daily communication arts instruction offers the students the necessary foundations in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Math instruction offers a sequence of general math concepts and problem solving. The PA State Standards required for grades 4-6 are reflected throughout the Governor Mifflin School District curriculum.
