History :
Grace Presbyterian Church is dedicated to caring for each other as we seek to share the good news of Jesus Christ in our community through worship, music, youth ministry, Christian Education, fellowship, and outreach. After a survey in 1948 completed by Miss Sally Thrower, it was decided that a Presbyterian Church was needed in the Erwin Farm neighborhood. Because Springs Cotton Mills was in the process of expanding the housing development for Springs employees, Colonel Elliott Springs made our present lot available to us at no cost. The chapel was named Grace, after the Grace Bleachery and also for the road running through the area, Grace Avenue. The 1st service in the original building was held on Easter Sunday, April 17, 1949. By 1953, membership had grown to approximately 60 persons and on April 19, 1953, a commission of Bethel Presbytery officially organized Grace Presbyterian Church. Most of its charter members were of varying denominations, a trend which has continued throughout our history. The 1st service was held in our present sanctuary on December 14, 1958. From 1949 until 1971, Grace was yoked with other small community churches. In 1971, Grace became a self-supporting church with a full-time pastor. In 1977 a modern educational building was added. We have been blessed with excellent pastors since our beginning. We have also been blessed with a dedicated congregation who has built memories of hard work, dedication, and love. Many of our fine young people who have grown up here have assumed roles of leadership and responsibility.
