Mission:
The mission of the Greensburg Salem School District is for every person affiliated with the District to work collaboratively with the community in educating all students. This will be accomplished by recognizing the value of each individual and promoting personal growth in a challenging and caring environment which prepares students to become more productive and responsible citizens.
About Us:
With an enrollment of 3,060 students, Greensburg Salem is located 35 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, PA in the center of Westmoreland County. The District covers an area of 51 square miles that include urban, suburban and rural populations. Students live in the City of Greensburg, Salem Township and the boroughs of South Greensburg and Southwest Greensburg for a total population of 27,506 residents (2000 Census)
The Greensburg Salem school board, staff and community work together to provide high quality education extending beyond the walls of the school and traditional school day. After-school programs offer students a variety of support systems including tutoring, mentoring, and homework help. Libraries and computer labs are open for public and student use in the evening.
The belief that "effort creates ability" has led to a challenging curriculum and helped to make Greensburg Salem students among the most academically competitive in the county. This is evidenced by the fact that for the past several years there have been consistent improvements in the SAT and PSSA scores, with District students scoring well above state averages.
Greensburg is the County Seat and serves as the business, industrial, cultural and political center in the central Westmoreland County area. The School District has formed partnerships with area businesses and organizations in order to enrich the education of our students and enhance the lives of local residents.
