History:
1898-1929: The Beginning of a Fellowship
On September 3,1897, a notice was published in Haddon Heights calling a special meeting for those who counted themselves believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. This group, including twelve members from The Haddonfield Baptist Church, were drawn together under the burden to "Hold Forth the Word of Life" through the ministry of a local church of fellow-believers.
Plans and an estimate were submitted for a chapel to be built on land given through the generosity of Mr. & Mrs. Benjamin A. Lippincott. The location was on the White Horse Pike, just North of Station Avenue. A proposal was made and adopted on January 4, 1898 to borrow money to pay the indebtedness of $1,200 on the Chapel. It was at this time the group decided to separate themselves as an independent Baptist organization, and moved that a man of God be called for the services to be held January 9,1898.
On January 26, 1898, a call was extended to Mr. T. H. Sprague to preach until such time as an organization was completed. On February 26, twenty core members of the group gathered together for an important purpose. By motion, the name "Haddon Heights Baptist Church" was selected. The Church body was legally constituted by a Certificate of Incorporation by the State of New Jersey. All those admitted to the new Church prior to April 15, 1898 were to be considered Charter Members.
In June of 2000, the church called Derek Mosher to be the new Youth Pastor. His main goal as Youth Pastor was to design a youth ministry that would meet the needs of teenagers through fun activities, intimate Bible study, small group interaction, and just hanging out in a wholesome, yet exciting environment.
Pastor Boehning announced his plan to resign from his position as Senior Pastor in May of 2003 due to health reasons. He announced that he would be returning to Baptist Bible College to resume a teaching position at the request of the college. His resignation became official on July 1, 2003, and on February 8, 2004, the church body officially voted in Pastor Smith as Senior Pastor and Pastor Derek Mosher as Assistant Pastor. On May 1, 2006 Pastor Mosher assumed the role of Senior Pastor; Pastor Smith continued as pastor on a part-time basis
