History :

The Johnson County Library was originally located in a storefront building on the Courthouse Square during the1930's W.P.A. days.

In 1962 the Library joined the Oconee Regional Library headquarted in Dublin.

During 1967 a new library building, named the Harlie Fulford Memorial Library, was constructed and dedicated as a memorial to the late Harlie L. Fulford, a prominent citizen of Johnson County. Mr. Fulford stated in his will, ?I hereby bequeath and devise the sum of $25,000 to be used for the erection and equipping of a public library for Johnson County, Georgia, to be known as the Harlie Fulford Memorial Library.? Mr. Fulford was a Mason, Shriner, president of the local Lion?s Club, president of the American Legion in Wrightsville and served in the capacity of Johnson County School Superintendent as well as a Johnson County Commissioner. The cost of the project was $64,000 and provided a 3300 square foot facility to the region.
