Harper School is dedicated to creating a climate that meets the needs of all children and helps them to become successful and responsible life-long learners.
Our Mission Statement is as follows:
We believe that children learn in various ways.
We believe that children should be helped to view themselves as capable individuals who are worthy of respect.
We believe that children should be provided opportunities to become responsible and productive members of society.
We believe that children should be taught to use critical thinking skills in order for them to become effective problem solvers and decision makers.
We believe that optimal learning occurs when there are positive partnerships among children, staff, family, and community.
We believe that the school environment should foster positive interpersonal relationships.
We believe that children should learn to work both independently and cooperatively.
Harper is an elementary building that serves children from kindergarten through fourth grade, and parent involvement is an integral component of our building. Although the size of our student body has doubled over the past ten years, Harper remains the smallest elementary school in District 39. It provides students with a warm, nurturing environment that focuses on the social, emotional, and academic development of all children. The majority of our students have attended at least two years of nursery school before beginning kindergarten, and our students consistently score well on national, state, and local assessments.
