Mission Statement
The staff of Harris Elementary School considers its mission to be the mental, physical, emotional, asthetic and social development of each child. We believe that all students can learn and must be given the opportunity to master basic skills. We accept the responsibility to teach all students so they can attain their maximum potential without regard to socio-economic status, race, religion or gender.
History
Harris Elementary School is named for Malana A. Harris, a former Akron teacher who was instrumental in the growth of the kindergarten program in Akron. Harris is located on the site of the former Caldwell School, built in 1906 by the Portage Township Schools. In 1916, the Akron School Board annexed Caldwell and it became part of the Akron Public School system
