The Heritage Baptist Church was organized in the fall of 1990 and held its first church service on Oct 21, 1990 at the Schnecksville Grange. Six families formed the congregation and called their first pastor, James E. Barr by that November. In the Spring of 1991 the church purchase its present property located on Route 309 in Orefield. The property was familiar to the community in that it was the old "Trexler Grocers" office and operation facility. Everyone who lived in the area remembers the orchards, the fruit stands, and the barns and buildings of the property. Many folks can even remember working there.Over the next decade the church family grew in number and expanded its church facilities. One room at a time the renovations were completed, reshaping the old orchard facilities for church use. And every year or so another barn would be torn down.
In December of 1999, the new addition to the church was completed. This new addition houses the current worship center and auditorium. Today, only a small portion of the old Trexler facility is still standing. Over the years a number of folks have stopped in to see what God has been doing in the old orchard warehouse, office and garage, now Sunday school classrooms and office space. So many volunteer hands have contributed to the work since the church's beginning. And all along the way God's hand of provision and protection was watching over our church. May He receive the praise for all that is accomplished through this ministry.
