Forty-five years ago, a small group of community leaders banded together, formed a non-profit corporation and accepted the Ensign Thaxter House from the Wompatuck Men's Club with the promise to use and preserve this beautiful historic building as a vibrant and living part of Hingham's Colonial tradition.
True to that promise, the Ensign John Thaxter House - the site of the Hingham Community Center - is today, not only an enduring symbol of Hingham's heritage, but a building brimming with activity, a social and cultural resource for the entire South Shore. Supported soley through annual memberships, program fees, room rentals and donations from friends who believe the Center's offerings are vital to improving the quality of life on the South Shore. The Center could not survive without your support and participation in its activities.
