The Hondo Art League(HAL) was founded in 1972 by a group who needed a warm and open environment in which to meet, pursue their art interests, and to offer professional instruction in many art forms to its members and to those in the community who were interested in the visual arts. The founders of HAL realized the importance of fostering the arts and offering art-related opportunities to everyone in the community, regardless of age or talent level. Throughout the year, classes are offered in watercolor, mosaics, oils, acrylic, drawing, pastels, colored pencil, pen and ink, clay, and collage. New members are always welcomed, and membership is not required in order to take classes at HAL.The historic building, built in 1942, was a WWII barrack which housed young airmen who trained at the base. The HAL members periodically refurbish the building, most recently in 2009. The building now sports fresh interior paint AND a hot pink door and is abuzz with the comings and goings of artists-at-work and classes for both children and adults.
