The Society's Museum, located in the Horace Greeley House, the Greeley family's country home from 1864-1872. 

The Horace Greeley House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  It provides a handsome example of 19^th century architecture as well as having historic significance as the former home of one of the town's most celebrated residents.  The house is situated on a hillside close to the center of town, where it has been a well-loved landmark for nearly 150 years.

The Museum houses permanent exhibits on Horace Greeley era and our Quaker heritage as well as other rotating exhibits.  The Museum Archives include books, photographs, costumes, maps, local diaries, and merchants' records.  The original kitchen offers hands-on exhibits of old tools and kitchen items, and a history trunk.  The period Perennial and Herb Gardens feature unusual species indigenous to the area and plants once used for medicinal purposes.

The Horace Greeley House is open for tours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 1:00-4:00.  Group tours or tours at other hours may be arranged by appointment\ by calling the Museum at (914)238-4666.  For more information about the Society or the Town of New Castle, please view the Society's website at www.newcastlehs.org
