History
Hugo Schmidt Elementary School is named after a community leader in the Tampa Bay Area, Hugo Schmidt Sr. He visits our school and is an inspiration to all the teachers and students at our school.
Mr. Schmidt began his own very successful wholesale building supply business. He served on the Hillsborough County School Board from 1967 to 1976, serving as chairman twice. During the time Mr. Schmidt was on the board, desegregation was initiated in Hillsborough County.
It is a great honor to have such a distinguished and accomplished citizen as the name sake of our school. His gentle way and passion for education have endeared him to the staff and students of Hugo Schmidt Elementary.
