Mission Statement
The Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County leads the community in animal welfare and assures sanctuary for all animals in need.
Our shelter promotes the humane care and treatment of all animals and supports cooperative humane efforts throughout the state of Wisconsin. We are not associated with any other local or national humane society.
History:
The Humane Animal Welfare Society was incorporated on July 21, 1965 by a group of concerned citizens to create a central location in Waukesha County where homeless and stray animals could be humanely kept and cared for and provided the opportunity for a happy, loving home.
The Society's shelter was built at its present location at 701 Northview Road in Waukesha in 1969. The building was expanded in 1973, 1979 and 1991. The present day modern facility accommodates over 6,000 animals per year. The kennel consists of adoption, stray, quarantine and special care areas. The lobby consists of four interview rooms and administrative offices.
