The Jaques Art Center publicly presents exhibits, workshops, seminars and programming for people of all ages, cultures and backgrounds. Its focus is to publicly present the arts including that of Francis Lee Jaques and Florence Page Jaques.
History
A Bit of History In 1996, the founders of the Jaques Art Center addressed the following question: Will the Aitkin area support an art center? The obvious “yes” has been enforced as visitors and workshop participants join in. Inasmuch as the Center outgrew its physical space, the Board was sensitive to making space accessible to all members of the community. Since 1996, the quality and quantity of exhibits, workshops and special events have developed beyond the founder’s expectations. The Board of Directors reaches to the general public for financial support of ACCESS JAQUES, a capital campaign to expand and rehabilitate Aitkin, Minnesota's existing Carnegie Building. We are a 501c3 nonprofit corporation.
ACCESS JAQUES provides for inclusion, exhibition and education as in:
- Inclusion of the physically challenged by providing state-of-the- art accessibility to the building.
- Exhibition space for permanent showing of Francis Lee Jaques’ art as well as regular shows of works by invited artists
- Education space for additional adult and children’s workshops.
Building plans conformed to ADA rules and the Jaques Art Center, a former Carnegie Library, will continue to be listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.
