The JCGHO was founded in August 1995.
The first meeting was held on August 27, 1995 at the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art.
The purpose of the organization is The Jones County Genealogy Organization, Inc., which was formed exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, including, for such purposes, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or the corresponding section of any future federal tax code.
The activities of the Organization include the study of genealogy in Jones County, Mississippi and surrounding areas, the further education of those persons interested in the field of genealogy, the conduct of scholarly genealogical research, and the preservation of the records of past and present life in this area.
