Our mission is to empower the citizens of the Sugar Land area to take responsibility for enhancing their environment. Education and outreach activities focus on litter prevention, recycling, waste management and beautification. Keep Sugar Land Beautiful reaches out to all segments of our community to accomplish this mission.
What Is It?
Keep Sugar Land Beautiful works to enable area residents to take individual responsibility for enhancing the environment. Our education and outreach programs focus on litter prevention, recycling, waste minimization and beautification. KSLB, an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful and Keep Texas Beautiful, provides award-winning programs facilitated by volunteers, which help to motivate community members to improve their neighborhoods and create a more livable environment.
Our organization attracts more than 2,000 volunteers each year who assist with a wide variety of events such as the Don’t Mess With Texas Trash Off, Make A Difference Day, the Mobile Battery, Oil, Paint and Antifreeze (BOPA) Collection, and the annual Christmas Tree Recycling. KSLB is a recipient of the Governor’s Community Achievement Award which recognizes efforts to include youth, local businesses, civic groups and government in environmental awareness activities. Along with the recognition, the award includes a $130,000 landscape grant that will be used to beautify the northwest corner of the intersection at US59 and Dairy Ashford.
Our education activities include In-Service Day programs for teachers, public education classes, and presentations to school groups, Scouting organizations and community service organizations. Earlier this year KSLB launched the “Planet Earth Cart” project. This initiative will provide area elementary schools with mobile carts filled with books, games, videos and hands-on activities aimed at introducing elementary students to environmental concepts.
