About Us
This year is proving to be one of significance for us in our quest to provide the best educational services to the nearly 9,000 students in our district.
Progress toward closing the achievement gap between the highest and lowest scoring students continues in our second year of the KCUSD Instructional Action Plan. We are seeing results of the intense focus of every teacher and administrator on the strategies outlined in the Plan, and that's good news for everyone.
We also garnered the support of our local communities in building needed facilities, as voters approved Measure K, a $32 million school bond. The first Measure K project is a K-8 school on Zumwalt Avenue that we hope to complete for the start of the 2008/2009 school year. Other Measure K projects will follow quickly, as we work toward finalizing plans with the state, and securing available state matching funds.
In the district, we have ramped up our technology with a new, easy to navigate, website that will provide current information to parents and community members. PowerSchool and ConnectEd are two powerful software solutions that also improve our ability to provide timely and accurate information to our constituents. ConnectEd allows us to quickly make phone calls to every student home, which lends itself to a variety of communication needs including back to school information, testing notifications, and crisis communications. PowerSchool is a means for students and parents to stay informed about grades, assignments, attendance and more, using web-based technology. We'll have more to report on this subject when it makes its debut in the second semester of school.
Kings Canyon Unified is recognized as a district committed to excellence in public education, and this is seen every day at every school, and in every classroom. We have the best students, teachers, staff, and community residents, and that's a powerful combination for success.
