The farm was first owned by the famous Wentworth family.  Mark Hunking Wentworth, Esq. of Portsmouth in the Province of New Hampshire in New England purchased the land in 1765.  The property was conveyed to Wentworth's son-in-law, John Fisher, who built a saw and grist mill on Seward's Brook in 1769.  

The  property passed to John Fisher, Jr. in 1799, and to John Drew in 1802, who built his house in 1804.  It was Mark Hunking Wentworth's son, John Wentworth, who became the last English governor of New Hampshire before the Revolutionary War.  There are many famous New Hampshire sites still named after him.  One would imagine that Governor Wentworth spent significant time on this property and in the home still here today.
