amar County, founded in 1904 and named for the distinguished 19th century statesman, L.Q. C. Lamar, is located in the pine woods section of the southeast Mississippi. Within Lamar County lie four incorporated cities; the Hattiesburg MSA, the county seat of Purvis, Lumberton and Sumrall. Other communities in Lamar County that are not incorporated include: Oak Grove, Baxterville, Oloh, Bellevue, Rocky Branch, Midway and Okahola. The county covers a total area of slightly under 500 square miles or approximately 319,360 acres.
