Mission:
The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The organization derives its strength from the energy and commitment of more than a hundred and fifty thousand members and supporters nationwide.

Founded in 1920 after a 72-year struggle to gain women's right to vote, the LWV began the effort to help in the education of 20 million women on how to exercise their new political rights and responsibilities. Although programs and priorities have changed over the years, the League has remained true to its basic purposes.

The League of Women Voters has two separate and distinct roles.
- Education: we present unbiased nonpartisan information about elections, the voting process, and issues.

- Action/Advocacy: we are nonpartisan, but after study, we use our positions on issues to advocate for or against particular policies.

Vision, Beliefs and Intentions:

The goal of the League of Women Voters of the United States is to empower citizens to shape better communities worldwide.

We:
- Act after study and member agreement to achieve solutions in the public interest on key community issues at all government levels.
- Build citizen participation in the democratic process
- Engage communities in promoting positive solutions to public policy issues through education and advocacy.

We believe in:

- The empowerment of the grassroots, both within the League and in the community.
- The power of collective decision-making for the common good.

We will:
- Act with trust, integrity and professionalism.
- Operate in an open and effective manner to meet the needs of those we serve, both members and the public.

- Acknowledge our heritage as we seek our path to the future.
