Mission Statement
The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

The League has fought since 1920 to improve our systems of government and impact public policies through citizen education and advocacy. It is a grassroots organization working at the national, state and local levels. The League of Women Voters of Rogue Valley is a one of presently 15 local Oregon Leagues, with a State League in Salem. There are over 900 Leagues in all 50 states and a national League of Women Voters of the United States in Washington D.C.

Our Principles
Principles are concepts of government, supported by the League as a whole, which constitute the authorization for adoption of national, state and local programs.

The League has two separate and distinct roles: "Voter Service and Citizen Education" and "Action and Advocacy". The League of Women Voters of Rogue Valley is a membership organization that conducts both activities and is a nonprofit 501(c)(4) corporation. For it's voter service/citizens education activities the main source are volunteers. Any other costs related to citizen service and education are covered by the League of Women Voters of Oregon Education Fund, which is a 501(c)(3) corporation, a nonprofit educational organization.

Voter Service and Citizen Education
As an organization the League of Women Voters does not support or oppose candidates for public office at any level of government.

Action and Advocacy
The League works to influence public policy through advocacy, directed by positions that have been taken after long, thorough studies and consensus at the local, state or national level depending on the scope.  Positions are used to advocate for or against particular policies remaining true to its basic purpose: making democracy work for all citizens. The League of Women Voters makes a difference in the lives of citizens because of the energy and passion of thousands of members committed to our principles.
