About Us:
In the Leander Independent School District, success is more than a feeling - it is progress that can be measured, evaluated and replicated in classrooms across a district that is the school district of choice for thousands of families moving into Central Texas. It is achievement measured by double-digit increases in scores on state academic assessments, improvements measured by LISD's innovative student learning profiles system, and students sharing personal learning goals with their parents in student-led conferences.
Success in Leander ISD is National Merit and Advanced Placement Scholars, county Spelling Bee champions, and students recognizing each other for honesty, integrity and caring about others. It is the Blue Belles' Gift of Love Dance Clinic giving hard-earned money to the families of students with high medical expenses. And - perhaps, most of all - success in Leander ISD is measured by a level of parent and community involvement that is the envy of school districts across Texas.
Leander ISD schools serves more than 24,200 students this year, an increase of 2,400 students in a single year. Yet our district has prospered academically despite this rapid growth, earning a reputation as one of Central Texas' finest school districts.
Leander ISD opened its third high school, fifth and sixth middle schools and six additional elementary campuses since the fall of 2003. Two elementaries (Elementary #18 and #19) will open next fall, and the district's fourth high school and two additional elementaries are scheduled for a fall 2008 opening. In 2005-2006, community members worked for months on our Citizen Facility Advisory Committee, focusing on the district's facility needs for the next 3-5 years. In past years, parents and members of the LISD community have served on the Substance Abuse Prevention Advisory Committee, helping to shape an all-out assault to provide safe, secure schools, while others served on a district-wide Nutrition Advisory Committee and Athletics Committee. Yet other parents and community representatives meet each year to recommend attendance boundaries for newly opening campuses at all levels.
The result of this unparalleled community involvement is an enhanced learning environment where Leander ISD's students can continue to reach new heights in academic and extracurricular achievement. Is it any wonder that more and more choosy parents are choosing Leander ISD to educate their most precious resource - their children?
