In January 1999, God led Mark Crews to begin a new church. Mark, having served in a nearby church for several years, strongly sensed that God wanted him to stay in the York area and reach unchurched people in creative and modern ways. Mark made a personal commitment to God to introduce this innovative approach to church and restore the precepts of the New Testament church.
Life Way began with a small core of four families that began meeting together in a dance studio in downtown York in September of 1999. At that time, an official kickoff date for the church was set for January 2, 2000. On January 2, 2000, Life Way held its first official church service at Hunter Street Elementary School in York. Life Way enjoyed a long term relationship with Hunter Street Elementary School but was given the opportunity to use the Clover National Guard Armory. After prayerfully considering all the options, Life Way's management team led Life Way to relocate to the Armory. The first service in the new location was February 8, 2004. This move brought Life Way a host of new ministry opportunities. Currently more than 150 people call Life Way Church home with a weekly attendance of about 110 people.
Mission Statement:
Our Mission is to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ by creating environments where people are encouraged and equipped to connect with god, together, end to the community.
Belief Statements:
We believe the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God and that men were moved by the Holy Spirit to write the very words of Scripture. Therefore, the Bible is without error.
We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). We believe that Jesus Christ is the second member of the Trinity (the Son of God) who became flesh to reveal God to man and to become the Savior of the lost world.
We believe that mankind was created in the image of God to have fellowship with Him but became alienated in that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, man is incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through his own effort alone.
We believe that the blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sin. Therefore, salvation occurs only when people place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as sufficient payment for their sin.
We believe that every Christian should live for Christ and not for himself. By obedience to the Word of God and daily yielding to the Spirit of God, every believer should mature and be conformed to the image of Christ.
We believe that the church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head. The members of the church are those who have trusted by faith the finished work of Christ. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by loving Him and by making Him known to the lost world.
We believe that baptism is an outward signification of the grace of God in the life of a believer. It is symbolic of salvation, not part of salvation. Since it is a symbol, we believe that only those professing a personal faith in Christ should be baptized.
