History

In 1930 twenty five members of the Liberty Primitive Baptist Church in Los Angeles began meeting in their homes, forming the Little Zion Primitive Baptist Church. The church purchased a building in Compton in 1933, later selling the building to resume meeting in homes and rented facilities. This continued until 1963 when the church purchased the property at the current location in Bellflower. Although the property was originally a small home and vacant lot, the house was remodeled to accommodate services until the current building was constructed. Deacons Vernon Culp and Clarence Hall were instrumental leaders in this endeavor. During this time, a number of elders served as pastor. Elders Osborne and Radford are especially remembered.

In 1967, in the nearby areas of Garden Grove and Orange, five families began meeting in homes founding the Orange Primitive Baptist Church in December. The church met in rented facilities, though desiring to purchase a building of their own. Elder Joseph Holder was their pastor.

In late 1975 Little Zion Church was without a pastor. The church invited Elder Joseph Holder to preach for them on Sunday evenings until they could reach a decision regarding a pastor. This arrangement continued until the spring of 1976 when the two churches, Little Zion and Orange, merged into one church (May, 1976). Elder Holder was called as pastor.

The members of both churches have worked for peaceful and respectful relationships between churches within their fellowships. Both in the merger of two churches into one and in the bonding of lives that occurred after the merger, this church has fostered a spirit of unity and warmth as part of its mission as a church. (Ephesians 4:3). Elder Holder continues to serve as pastor.
