Springing from a Vacation Bible School held in June 1947, Marlow Heights Baptist Church became a fellowship in its own rite January 4, 1948. With the help of First Baptist Church of Front Royal and the Board of Education and Missions of the Baptist General Association of Virginia, the church established itself in a converted sheep barn located three blocks east of its present site.
The current building was constructed in 1949. The first service held here was May 8, 1949, with only subflooring, cinder block walls and second-hand furniture. Through the generosity of many people and the blessings of God, we have been able to make substantial improvements to the facility over the years. The education wing of Marlow Heights was constructed in 1989 to house several of the Sunday school classes, the church offices, and a 300-seat fellowship hall. In December 2001, the sanctuary was enhanced with a new sound system, the addition of a projection system, and increased seating space. Most Recently, in November 2003, the reception area was remodeled thus creating a beautiful, roomy lobby for us all to enjoy as we fellowship.
We will be as creative and innovative as it takes to let our community experience the life-changing love of Jesus Christ.
There is one holy and sovereign God.
That Jesus Christ, God’s son, is Lord. He was both human and divine. He was crucified, dead and buried. He was raised from the dead. In Jesus we find forgiveness for our sins and the promise of eternal life.
The Holy Spirit is God’s presence in our world and in our lives. He convicts us, guides us, encourages us, and empowers us.
The Bible is the inspired word of God and our guide for Christian living. It establishes the parameters of our faith. It is true and trustworthy.
The purpose of the church is to be the body of Christ. We are called to gather for worship, ministry, spiritual growth, accountability, support and fellowship.
All Christians are called to live holy, Christ-like lives. We are to love as we have been loved, without prejudice or bias.
