To educate all students of a diverse community to become responsible, thinking, creative, literate citizens who strive for personal excellence, function, successfully, and enrich society
Marshall Street Elementary School was built in 1957 as 1 of 2 elementary schools in the West Norriton Township System. Shortly after that, the school was incorporated into the Norristown Area School District. It now houses a student population of over 600 in grades K-5. Marshall Street is currently meeting its No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) targets.
Through a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant, Marshall Street Elementary School has an after-school program from 3-6 p.m. free to all students with priority given to those needing academic support. A Reading First grant funded a new position of Reading Coach to provide resources to classroom teachers. Families and Schools Together (FAST), a multifamily group intervention designed to build protective factors for children (4 to 12 years old) and empower parents to be the primary prevention agents for their own children is available to Marshall Street Elementary School families.
We strive to celebrate each individual child while helping him or her to become a proud member of the Marshall Street Family. Many of our school activities throughout the year will focus on citizenship. Students at the school are rewarded for their pro-social behavior. They earn BUGS (Being Unbelievably Good Students) or become a VIP and honored at the monthly pro-social assemblies.
The community is invited several times during the year to participate in reading and math nights, bingo night, and Dr. Seuss night. Fourth and fifth grade students participate annually in Reading Olympics and in the past three years have placed first or second. Marshall Street Elementary School is very proud of our well-rounded students.
