The Matamoras Rod & Gun Club was founded in 1919 and incorporated on October 14, 1929 to promote social activities among members relating to hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation as well as to propagate and preserve fish and game. Over the years the Club has acquired land to preserve in its natural state and to protect the wildlife that inhabit it.
In the 1930's the Club held shooting matches in the garage portion of the Matamoras Borough Hall.
In 1941, the Club purchased 41 acres known as the Ladore Camp. Located on the property was a log cabin and a small two-story farmhouse which are both still being used today.
In the 1960's the Club was instrumental in establishing the Pike County Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs (PCFSC). The Club and PCFSC were responsible for initiating the Youth Conservation School held annually for Pike County students ages 12 to 14.
The Club purchased 99 additional acres in 2000 and became a "share club" in order to finance the property. There are 100 Share Holders each owning 1 percent of the property.
Over the next 10 years additional one acre lots were acquired in order to increase the safety zone surrounding the shooting ranges.
Today the club members use the original log cabin for monthly meetings, dinners and educational classes. The grounds also include a kitchen, covered pavilion, chicken barbecue pit, shooting sheds and various storage buildings. The most recent addition to the club is the men's and women's restrooms.
The members enjoy shooting on several ranges which include: 25 yd., 50 yd., 100 yd., 200 yd., shotgun patterning and trap ranges.
