Miles Avenue Mathematics/Science Technology Magnet serves students from grades 1 through 5. Student population is predominantly Hispanic/Latino. The majority of students are classified as English language Learners who qualify for the federal Title I program.. The fourth and fifth grade classrooms each have a cluster of students who have been identified as Gifted or Potentially Gifted. Grades one through three participate in a primary screening process which facilitates the identification of potentially gifted students.

        Miles Magnet Center enriches the Los Angeles Unified School District’s core curriculum and instructional programs by engaging students in inquiry-based activities that develop conceptual learning throughout the curriculum, with an emphasis on math and science; integrating technology as a tool for acquiring and demonstrating knowledge.

        Miles Magnet has been specifically designated as bilingual. All classroom teachers have the appropriate certification to work with English Language Learners or are working toward that certification. Teachers provide a program that is individualized and meets the needs of English-only students and speakers of other languages, especially those whose primary language is Spanish.
