The Medina Historical Society was established in 1971 under the guidance and direction of Ceil White, who was then Medina Village Historian. During the first years, meetings were held at the Presbyterian Church and Oak Orchard School. Displays were arranged in Main Street Store Windows.

In 1979 the Society signed an agreement with the Town of Ridgeway to lease it's former Office at 406 West Avenue. This house was built in 1841 for LeVan Merritt, a prosperous Mill Owner and prominent Medina Citizen. It immediately became a meeting place and gradually a Museum.

By the early 1990's, the Parlor and the Dining Room had been redecorated to the way it looked at the turn of the century. Pictures provided by the Merritt family were used as a guide. Over the years, many pictures and artifacts relating to Medina's History have been received and displayed.

The collection offers a glimpse of what life in the area was like in the past and includes military memorabilia. Redecoration is slow but ongoing. Operation and maintenance of the Museum is dependent for the most part on the work of Volunteers.
