We are committed to fulfilling the recreational, cultural and leisure interests of all that live, work, and play in our vibrant, tropical, historic community.
The City of Miami Beach Parks and Recreation Department provides amyriad of programs and services seven (7) days per week. Our professional staff is committed to continuously improve the City's Parks and Recreation services. The Department is composed of the Administration Division and three (3) operating Divisions: Recreation, Greenspace Management and Golf.
In October of 2003, the Parks & Recreation Department earned accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Parks and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA). We are one of less than 100 Parks and Recreation Departments in the United States to earn this prestigious certification which acknowledges compliance with more than 150 best practice standards.
A unique component of the Parks & Recreation Department’s Administration Division is our in house media office. This office operates pro-actively to identify and utilize all possible communication tools and outlets to achieve our Mission. Two main communication components are the Recreation Review and the Department’s website.
The media office was recently honored with the Circle of Excellence Award by the City County Communications and Marketing Association (3CMA) for their Recreation Review magazine. The magazine was recognized among other recreation publications from across the country.
The Recreation Review, which highlights an array of programs and activities offered by our department, has been improved over the years, achieving a more user friendly format and a higher customer service standard. The magazine is published three times per year with a distribution of 60,000+ Miami Beach households.
In an effort to continue enhancing our marketing strategies, the Department put a face to the excitement, by bringing to life their popular and friendly, "Buddy", the mascot. He participates in all recreational events while putting a smile on every child's face.
