History:
The Mount Airy Lions Club has a rich history. The Club was chartered in October 1940, and was sponsored by the Frederick Lions Club. This makes the Mount Airy Lions Club the oldest service organization in the town of Mount Airy.
We are blessed to have one surviving original charter member - Past International Director Murray D. Ryan - still active after 65 years of perfect attendance.
In a speech addressing the 1925 Lions Club International Convention the famous blind and deaf humanitarian Helen Keller, urged our organization to become the "Knights of the Blind" - and while we still follow that famous mandate, the Mount Airy Lions Club finds itself being involved in nearly every aspect of providing service to the residents of this community. For example this club maintains a very large inventory of electric hospital beds, wheel chairs, walkers, crutches, potty chairs and other sickroom equipment that we will loan out free of charge to anyone who needs it who resides in our area.
