Located on the square in Mount Vernon Place, the church is one of only three Gothic buildings in the city of Baltimore. Conceived as a "Cathedral of Methodism" the church was completed in November of 1872 on what was then the outskirts of the city. The church sits on the site of the mansion of Charles Howard, who was married to Elizabeth Phoebe Key. Her father, Francis Scott Key, the author of the Star-Spangled Banner died in his daughter's home. The central theme of the building is the glory of God's creation. Nature theme predominate the stained glass and carvings. The rose window in the back of the sancuary is modeled after the one in Notre Dame Cathedral. The church offices are located next door in Asbury House, an early Victorian era brownstone mansion. The church has an active and growing congregation that is happy to showcase their church home to visitors and area residents alike.
