The Muhlenberg Elementary Center (MEC) is one of the largest, most diverse elementary schools in the state of Pennsylvania and the largest in BerksCounty. Our tremendously dedicated staff is proud to serve the daily needs of over 1,300 grade K-5 students. We are located in the suburban community of Laureldale at the corner of Kutztown Road and Sharp Avenue.

At the MEC, students follow a six-day cycle while being provided with numerous opportunities for learning. Together with our core curriculum, students are taught appropriate social skills through our High Five initiative. In addition to our challenging core curriculum and social skills program, certified teachers also offer students instruction in Art, Music, Library, Physical Education, and Computer Skills. To meet students’ special needs, the MEC has numerous special education teachers and assistants as well as speech therapists and a school Psychologist. Certified teachers and assistants in our Title I, Learning Lab, and ESL programs provide additional support in Math and Reading/Language Arts. Remedial and Enrichment programs, as well as guidance support, are also offered throughout the school day. Additionally, depending on their grade level, students are permitted to participate in band, chorus, student council, and assist in operating and managing the school store.

Our faculty and staff believe that a healthy relationship between the community and our school is a fundamental part of our educational program. We are proud of our strong community involvement. An active and supportive PTO has sponsored a school store, a Holiday Shop, numerous assemblies, and provided thousands of dollars in food and prizes to our students. In addition, we have a successful parent volunteer program, welcoming hundreds of parents and family members into our building each year. Just recently, the newly established Muhlenberg Education Foundation has graciously offered their support to the MEC as well.

Faculty and staff members are committed to working together with students and families to achieve success one child at a time. Consistently scoring above state mandated minimums on achievement tests, our students are imparted with an educational experience that fosters a positive attitude toward school, family, community, and self. Our staff of experienced and highly talented teachers strives to provide each student with a solid foundation of the basic skills needed to become life-long learners and contributing members of the community.
