Methodists in the Narrowsburg area was in the home of Commodore C. Murray in July of 1839. Rev. R.L. Lyons officiated at that first meeting.
The present building was erected on "Church Hill" during the summer of 1856,and was dedicated in November of that year.
The question of moving the church to a more centralized location was discussed in 1879, and the decision made to do without a pastor for one year in order to save the funds for the move. The church building was then relocated to its present site.
In 1930 the inside of the church was completely done over. A new pulpit, chancel furniture, new pews, a new organ, and the ten gorgeous stained glass windows were installed.
After being part of the Wyoming Conference, Scranton District, for many years, the church was transferred to the New York Conference in 1975.
Since that time, and as part of the West Sullivan United Methodist Parish (South), the church has seen a number of pastors come and go, and in 1994 said "Good bye" to its former parish and became part of the Callicoon United Methodist Parish. The members are very committed to their church which is reflected in the Annual Election Day Turkey Dinner, now going into its 30th year. The church continues to Support the Narrowsburg food pantry and is pleased to have been serving the Narrowsburg community for over 166 years.
