In 1853, God put a vision in the hearts and minds of William and Rebecca Watson for a church in the Notchey Creek community. They gave 3 acres of land: one for the school, one for the church and one for the cemetery. George Watson and his boys sawed enough lumber for the main auditorium, receiving a bushel of corn for every 1000 feet of lumber. The first meeting was on October 5, 1853, with 21 present. Rev. S. M. Haun was the first pastor and served 43 years. There have been four different buildings. On January 6, 1995, the congregation, lead by the deacons and choir director, walked from the old sanctuary to the present sanctuary singing "Amazing Grace." Gale Miller has served as pastor since October 1987.
